I did a LOT of research before finding the 2140. I was ready to pull the trigger on the Samsung NC10 or N120 when I found one...but then I found the HP Mini 2140.The big thing that pulled me to the 2140 was the screen rez; 1366x768. While the on screen text is small I much prefer the higher rez to 1024x600.The 6-cell battery adds some height on the back of the netbook but I like it because it places the keyboard at an angle for easier typing; I'm a touch typist so it helps. They keyboard is great! I haven't had any problems typing or getting used to it. I like the shape of the keys too.The trackpad is alright. I wasn't expecting much from any netbook because of the size. I'd rather have a larger keyboard and a smaller trackpad any day. The placement of the buttons is different but you get used to it. Overall the trackpad wasn't a huge deciding factor for me since I was planning on using a bluetooth notebook mouse.I played around with the 2140 stock for a few hours and then popped in my 2GB Patriot DDR2 800. The difference was slight but noticeable. It was an easy upgrade and worth it. After some more time in XP+2GB I decided to put Windows 7 on the 2140...best thing I could have done! I followed this guide to get 7 on the 2140 and it worked flawlessly: [@]Over all I am very happy with the 2140.

I tried to cover as much as possible in the pros/cons. This is a great netbook! Glad I waited for the hi-res display version!

It's pricier then alot of the other netbooks but your paying for the extra quality! You get bluetooth, express-54 (mogo mouse anyone?!), hi-rez display , aluminum case, and a PC built with business/travel in mind. It feels very durable! Not to mention WinXP, and very little bloatware!!

On the negative side, they don't have a (HD display ver) bundle with the 3-cell battery. The 6-cell battery, while providing longer usage, kills the clean lines of a small thin netbook. This can become an issue with finding cases etc. It does however tilt the machine up and forward when sitting on a flat surface, which makes it easier on the wrists, and allows it to get better airflow. It's a 50/50 on that one. The mouse buttons on the side of the trackpad are akward and take some getting used to, but not a real huge issue. My other complaint is the glossy screen overlay. It makes it very hard to see outdoors. I sit out on the patio alot in the evenings and use this to check my email etc with and it can become quite a pain to do so at times depending on lighting and placement. My solution has been to up the brightness when on the patio to make it easier to see, this hampers battery life a little bit but not a huge concern for me. (this is a common complaint for a lot of current notebook computer, my wifes much larger Toshiba suffers the same issue. A matt overlay would be much better for all around usage!)

As far as the accesories go, the must buy list is:
2gb memory upgrade, a spare 3-cell battery, external DVD burner, (I grabbed a samsung SE-S084B and love it), and a good case.

Finding a good case seems to be the big buzz on the HP mini-notes. I bought a case logic 10.2" netbook neoprene sleeve for less then $8 at a big box store. It works well, not as perfectly snug as I would like it to be, but does the job. I also bought the Targus CityGear netbook case (TSM097US) which is perfect for my setup! I put the 6-cell battery in the bottom of the netbook compartment (Covered with a microfiber cloth I use to clean the screen with), then I slide the 2140 down into the comparment and it sits on top of the battery/cloth which makes it fit perfectly into the compartment and the cloth keeps anything from rubbing. The case has plenty of room for the samsung burner in the other soft lined pocket. And the outer zip pocket holds the AC cable and small amount of other goods (pens, sharpie, cell phone, thumb drive,USB Cable, etc). All of this for around $30 and it looks nice too! Great compliment to the 2140. And as a bonus if I really felt I needed the extra padding the 2140 will fit into the targus while also inside the case logic sleeve! (alot more snug but still fits just fine) Would be good like this for flights or when packed into a car for travel.

Overall this thing is perfect for what I wanted! If you are in the market for a netbook, this one while more expensive is sure hard to beat on features & design!!

HD screen. 6 cell battery. Aluminum case. Expresscard slot... it's a no brainer.
